Welcome to Midwest Hazecam!

Midwest Hazecam brings you live pictures and corresponding air quality conditions from scenic urban and rural locations in the upper Midwest. With Midwest Hazecam, you can literally see the effects of air pollution on visibility.

The images from the cameras are updated every 15 minutes. In addition, near real-time air quality data (instantaneous) and meteorological data (hourly average) are provided to distinguish natural from man-made causes of poor visibility, and to provide current air pollution levels to the public.

Brief Site Descriptions
Chicago Downtown, IL Live Web Cam Chicago Downtown: A city in eastern Illinois is located on the shores of Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes, with a population of more than 2.9 million. The Chicago camera is mounted on the dome at the Adler Planetarium and looks west-northwest towards the downtown Chicago skyline. This camera was installed in June 2009.
 
Cincinnati, OH Live Web Cam Cincinnati: A city in southwestern Ohio located along the Ohio River with a population of over 333,000 in the metropolitan area. The camera looks to the north. Air pollution issues in Cincinnati include occasional high 8-hour ozone levels during the summer (May through September) and high annual average fine particle levels.
 
Grand Portage, MN Live Web Cam Grand Portage Indian Reservation/Isle Royale National Park: The Anishinaabe Grand Portage Reservation is located in Cook County in the extreme northeast corner of Minnesota, approximately 150 miles from Duluth. The camera looks to the east out towards Isle Royale National Park, which is located in Lake Superior. Isle Royale National Park, which was established in 1940, is a federal Class I area and, as such, receives special protection from air pollution. The park encompasses a total area of more than 850 square miles and extends 4.5 miles outward from the island (which is 45 miles long and 9 miles wide at its widest point) into Lake Superior. Roadless Isle Royale is accessible only by boat or float plane. This area generally has lower levels of air pollution than urban areas in the Midwest.
 
Sault St. Marie Live Web Cam Sault St. Marie: Sault Sainte Marie is the oldest city in the state of Michigan. It is located at the eastern edge of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, on the Canadian border. The Saint Mary's river separates this city from its twin city of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The city is the site of the Sault Locks (usually called the Soo Locks) which allow ships to travel between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes. The city name originates from "Saults de Sainte-Marie," Old French for "Saint Mary's Falls", a reference to the rapids in the Saint Mary's River. Sault Ste. Marie is among the snowiest locations in Michigan receiving an average of 128" of snow a year.
 
St. Louis, MO Live Web Cam St. Louis: city in eastern Missouri located along the Mississippi River with a population of more than 2.8 million. The camera is located in East St. Louis, Illinois (at the St. Louis Supersite operated by Washington University) and looks to the west and the City of St. Louis, Missouri. Air pollution issues in St. Louis include occasional high 8-hour ozone levels during the summer (May through September) and high annual average fine particle levels.
 
St. Paul Live Web Cam St. Paul: The twin cities of Minneapolis-St.Paul located in Minnesota have a combined population of about 3.5 million in the metropolitan area. The camera looks to the west. Air pollution issues in Minneapolis-St.Paul includes occasional high 8-hour ozone levels during the summer (May through September) and high 24-hour fine particle levels throughout the year.

 
Seney, MI Live Web Cam Seney National Wildlife Refuge: Seney, which was established in 1935 for the protection and production of migratory birds and other wildlife, is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The 21,150-acre wilderness area in the refuge is a federal Class I area and, as such, receives special protection from air pollution. The camera looks to the north. The refuge generally has lower levels of air pollution than urban areas in the Midwest.
